Market carts

Does anybody know if stores like Canadian Tire or Home Depot sell market carts? I am looking for one, as I am moving and the area has several grocery stores that are within walking distance of each other and would like it if I could bring get groceries that I could carry in a cart rather than by lugging around several bags in my arms, especially with heavy items like milk, etc.
I just adopted a dog today and was wondering if anyone knows of a good veterinarian and dog groomer in the downtown/yaletown area, or even a short drive away. Preferably somewhere affordable and not too yuppie.... :)

thanks.

There was a recent post about where to find cheap beer in the city - my friend just happened to send me this link and I think it's genius!

http://www.iamelectro.com/beersearch.html

It lists drink specials by night in Vancouver. It of course doesn't have every bar but it's pretty handy. I think it might also need to be updated a bit. Kind of cool anyway though!

For example, the Yaletown brewery has $2.99 pints if it rains before noon on Thursdays. WTF?

mmmmmm, beer!

Probably been asked before, but where's the cheapest place to get Stella on tap?

I'm not in the mood to pay $8 for a pint but at the same time I'm not in the mood to stay at home in front of the boob tube either. I'm OH MY GOD feeling social. WHO KNEW??

Doesn't have to be in the city proper. I prefer a dive-y bar over a stuck up Yaletown bar (but in Yaletown I'll be paying $20 for a pint and the snobs will throw me out for wearing Chucks with holes in them anyways).

3....2....1.....go.

Bike safety runs both ways. I want to not run you over with my car because I've been run over while riding, it sucks and I have the scars to prove it. But you need to put a minimal amount of effort into riding safely and defensively for the conditions. Minimal effort like not wearing all black non-reflective gear on a black bike while lane-splitting on a major thoroughfare at night in a blustery rainstorm with a nearly-dead headlight and no flashers. Then how about not sitting in my passenger-side blind spot for eight blocks or a full kilometer before trying to pass me on the right just as I try to turn right at a stoplight. Then you curse and scream and punch the side of my car and rhetorically ask me if I even saw you? No, I didn't, I couldn't, because you went out of your way not to be seen.

Flea remedy?

So my feline pal has fleas, they aren't super bad but I know they are bothering him.

What is the best safest remedy? And where can I get it?

But those of you in the legal know, what is the protocol for someone serving you with legal papers? I was under the impression that it can't the person filing/serving, but are they allowed to use anyone to do it for them? Can they use a boyfriend/girlfriend? Do they need a witness?

I'm sure I could find all this out by google, but I find navigating legal talk so exhausting and difficult to understand that I thought I would put it out there is case any of you Vancouver peeps know about this kind of stuff.

THanks.

SUGAR COOKIES!!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

HI

I am addicted to sugar cookies but I can only purchase them during celebration/events/ holidays at safeway. i.e.  halloween, st. patrick's, valentines day, easter, christmas.

So what do they look like on normal days? or do they only make sugar cookies for the celebration/events/ holidays?

this is the sugar cookie I am talking about:

Does anyone know where I could purchase the same tasting ones? it really brings me back to my childhood.

Safeway and save on also sell these sugar cookies... but they do not taste as good

thanks

We, Vagabond Opera, are coming to British Columbia for the first time EVER. We are very much excited to be gracing lovely Vancouver this Friday (tomorrow!)

Vagabond Opera brings you the best in Balkan, gypsy, cabaret, vaudeville, jazz and opera! Singing in 14 languages, bringing in Bulgarian Accordion, sinfully fast cellos, jazzy drums beats, relentless upright bass and salacious saxophone.

We will be performing at Capilano University this Friday at 8pm, as part of the Folk and Roots Series.

Let us know if you've more questions. We're excited to be playing out first BC show. We'll be doing a more thorough Canadian tour in a few months. Cheers!

So, I had to move out of my place because my roommate was a verbally abusive asshole. He has contacted the Ministry of Housing and Social Development, and wants $800 from me.

I'm looking for anyone with experience with these guys, my phone interview isn't until the 17th and I will probably be quite nervous until then.

He wants $500 in rent, not for the last month I stayed - I paid that - he wants money for this month. Even though I'm not living there. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that one is going to get laughed at since I left on the first, gave him 10 days notice, and he kept my damage deposit.

He also want's $300 for professional cleaners. Because I left the floors dusty. He also claims I "never cleaned the shower", and a bunch of other lies. Is the MoH reasonable? How responsible am I? I'm just subletting from him anyway, some other company owns the house (I have no idea who) and I'm pretty sure I was being rented to illegally too. Thoughts?

PS, if you're looking for a place to rent, stay away from houses on Upland dr with guys named Rob...

Unlocking GSM cellphone

I want to get my GSM cellphone (Motorola V3) unlocked (from Rogers), and the place I tried over the Internet (recommended by people I know) didn't work out.

Anybody has an idea of a shop that would do it in Vancouver, close to Yaletown / downtown (I'd rather not go across the city for that) ?

Thanks a lot.

Fume Hood Regulations

Hi Fellow Vancouverites!

I have a question for you all. I tried to have a look through the Comm's archive to no avail so I will post it here.

Is a landlord in any way compelled to have a working fume hood over the stove in a rental apartment?

Thanks in advance for your, as always, sage wisdom!
